My way to the smart home.

My way to the smart home began years ago in 2019 with the purchase of three Eurotronic Comet DECT radiator thermostats, which I controlled via the Fritz.Box.
I reduced my heating costs by around 25% in my rented apartment at the time.

At the beginning of 2023, after moving into our house, I dealt with the topic more intensively and initially installed the SmartHome system with new radiator thermostats (Comet WiFi) from Telekom.
I exchanged the manual thermostat for controlling the gas heating for an eQ-3 Homematic IP wall thermostat with switching output and was quite satisfied.

But as the year progressed, more and more ideas came up

  • how can I control the radiator in the attic based on the temperature in the jamb so that the pipes in the jamb don’t freeze
  • How do I control the ventilation based on the humidity
  • How do I read my Bluetooth thermometer remotely

The ideas could not be realized with Telekom’s SmartHome solution, so I started looking for another system.
I came across Home Assistant, which I would like to share with you in this blog.

What is Home Assistant and how do I get it? You can read about that here .
